ILS 0.6 mm Waxed Thread (400m)

A 0.6 mm flat hand sewing waxed braid produced from 100% high tenacity polyester, made to our specification and sold under the India Leather Supply label. It is the finest gauge in our waxed thread range and the one to reach for when the stitch itself should sit quietly in the leather rather than announce itself.

The thread is braided rather than twisted, so it does not untwist or barber-pole as you pull a saddle stitch through. Its flat profile is the reason it looks the way it does on finished work: the thread lies down against the leather instead of standing proud of it, seats neatly into a groove, and gives a low, even stitch line rather than a bulky one. The waxed finish lets it grip the stitch and glide cleanly through the hole. At 0.6 mm it suits a tighter stitch pitch and thinner leather, where a heavier thread would crowd the hole and look out of proportion.

About Flat Braided CF Polyester

Braided continuous filament polyester is built by interlacing filament bundles into a braid rather than twisting them together, and here that braid is worked flat, so the thread has a ribbon-like cross-section instead of a round one. A flat braid packs into the stitch hole with less bulk and settles flush against the leather, which is what gives hand-stitched work its clean, low-profile line. Continuous filament, as opposed to spun staple fibre, also means a smoother surface with fewer loose fibres, so the thread stays clean-looking on light coloured leather.
