Developed over an almost six-month period of testing and prototyping, the ILS × Ironic Leather Skiving Knife is a purpose-built tool created exclusively for leathercrafters. Every aspect of the knife—from the steel and grind to the handle shape—has been carefully refined through real workshop use to deliver precision, comfort, and consistency where it matters most.

Key Features

75Ni8 High-Carbon Steel Blade

The blade is made from 75Ni8 steel, a high-carbon steel known for its fine grain structure, excellent edge retention, and ease of sharpening. These properties make it especially well-suited for leather skiving, allowing the blade to take a very sharp edge, cut cleanly through leather, and be quickly brought back to peak performance when needed.

Precision Hollow Grind

A standout feature of this knife is its hollow grind—a grind that is difficult to achieve and rarely executed well. This grind reduces cutting resistance, allowing the blade to glide smoothly through leather while offering superior control. It also makes the knife easier and quicker to re-sharpen compared to conventional flat or convex grinds.

36 mm Wide Blade

With a 36 mm blade width, the knife offers excellent surface contact and stability during skiving, making it ideal for controlled thinning of leather across larger areas as well as detailed work.

Ergonomically Refined Handle

Nearly two months were dedicated to refining the handle ergonomics, with repeated adjustments made to ensure comfort during long working sessions. The final shape provides a secure, balanced grip that helps reduce hand fatigue and improves control.

Natural Wood Handle

The handle is crafted from carefully selected wood with a beautiful natural grain, giving each knife a unique appearance. Beyond aesthetics, the wood offers a warm, comfortable feel in the hand, enhancing grip and overall usability.
