Panel Size & Grade

This is an embossed, top grain cowhide produced by ECCO, engineered for makers who need clean consistency, reliable performance, and efficient production.

The leather features a uniform pebble grain emboss, applied over a corrected surface to eliminate natural variation. Every section of the hide maintains the same grain size and pattern, allowing for precise panel matching and consistent output across multiple pieces—a key advantage in both small-batch and scaled production.

Built on a chrome-tanned base with vegetable re-tannage, the leather delivers a well-balanced structure: soft and flexible in hand, yet stable enough for clean construction and edge finishing. Compared to standard chrome leathers, it offers better fibre hold and more controlled working behaviour.

The leather is drum dyed green (struck-through), ensuring colour runs through the cross-section rather than sitting only on the surface. A pigmented base layer is applied for colour uniformity, followed by a PU topcoat that provides protection against scratches, handling marks, and daily wear. The result is a clean, slightly matte finish with excellent surface consistency.

At 1.4–1.6 mm thickness with a medium temper, this leather is easy to cut, predictable to assemble, and forgiving to work with—making it suitable for both experienced makers and those new to leathercraft.

About the Tannery

ECCO is one of the most advanced leather manufacturers globally, known for its end-to-end control of the leather-making process—from raw hide selection to finished product.

Unlike conventional tanneries, ECCO operates fully integrated facilities, combining material science, process engineering, and large-scale production expertise to deliver leathers with exceptional consistency and repeatability. Their focus is not just on aesthetics, but on performance, scalability, and manufacturing precision—making them a preferred supplier for global footwear and accessory brands where uniformity is critical.
