ECOSTICK® 1816B is a professional water-based contact adhesive developed by INTERCOM (Italy) for leather goods manufacturing, upholstery, footwear, and industrial laminating.
💧 Why Water-Based Matters
The adhesive uses a high-solids polymer dispersion rather than solvent carriers. This allows strong bonding performance while eliminating the solvents commonly found in traditional contact adhesives. The result is a near-odourless adhesive that is safer for indoor workshops, while still delivering excellent bonding performance on leather and synthetic materials.
Key Technical Characteristics
✓ High Initial Tack
Grabs immediately when surfaces meet
✓ Flexible Bond Lines
Won't crack or fail when leather bends
✓ Heat Reactivation
Missed the window? Just reheat and bond
✓ Ageing Resistance

Before you spread this, rough the surface.
Contact adhesive grips leather far better than it grips a finish. On chrome-tan, pigmented, coated or waxy leather the glue bonds to the coating, and it is the coating that eventually lets go of the hide. Scratching a keyed band into the glue area first is the single biggest thing you can do for bond strength, and it takes seconds per seam.
A Leather Detail Rougher does it in a straight, controlled band exactly where you want it, and unlike sandpaper it will not wander onto the face that stays visible.
Application Method
- Apply adhesive evenly to both surfaces.
- Allow adhesive to dry until tacky.
- Join the parts within 20 minutes.
- Apply pressure using a roller, clamp, or press.
Heat Reactivation: Heat the adhesive film to 60–70°C if the open time is exceeded. Reactivation is possible for up to 48 hours after application.
