Size

A set of round-hole stitching chisels designed to create clean, evenly spaced stitching holes in leather prior to hand sewing. Each tool is manufactured from high-carbon steel for strength and edge retention, and is intended for regular workshop use.

Purpose & Hole Type

These chisels are used to drive fully round holes through leather for saddle stitching and hand stitching. Unlike diamond chisels or pricking irons that create slits or marks, these produce true round holes, giving a straight, uniform stitch path and a different visual character to the finished seam.

✓ Hole size is fixed and consistent across the set to maintain stitch uniformity

Spacing Options & Project Selection Guide

Choose your preferred spacing based on project aesthetics and stitch density. Spacing is measured center-to-center between holes.

Spacing Stitches per 10cm Visual Style Ideal Projects
4 mm ~25 stitches Dense, refined, detail-oriented look Wallets and card holders, watch straps, small accessories, fine detail-focused designs
5 mm ~20 stitches Balanced, versatile, industry-standard Standard wallets, notebook covers, medium pouches, general leather goods
6 mm ~17 stitches Open, bold, statement stitching Belts, bags and totes, strap work, designs where the stitch line is meant to stand out visually

📐 Design Decision:

Spacing choice controls stitch density and the visual rhythm of the seam. Many makers standardize one spacing across their product line as part of brand identity.

Usage Requirements

✓ Required Surface

Use only with a firm punching board or dense cutting base. Soft or flexible surfaces will not support proper penetration.

✓ Proper Technique

Strike with a wooden/nylon/leather mallet or maul, keeping the tool vertical. Do not twist the tool while embedded in leather.

Care & Storage

⚠ High-Carbon Steel Care:

  • Will rust if exposed to moisture
  • Wipe dry after use
  • Lightly oil before storage
  • Store in a dry environment

Surface patina over time is normal for high-carbon steel tools.

Workshop Tool Finish — Cosmetic Marks Policy

These are basic workshop tools. Minor surface marks, machining lines, light scratches, or small handling bumps may be present from manufacturing and handling. Such cosmetic imperfections are normal for tools at this price point and do not affect functionality, hole accuracy, or performance.
